Another John Wieland mixed-use community, Ivy Walk

The City of Dunwoody, GA, a city in metro Atlanta, has recommended a partnership with John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods for its Dunwoody Renaissance redevelopment initiative. The City asked for proposals in March 2012 to redevelop a 16 acre parcel and 19 acre property, and the selection committee of City Council and staff members unanimously recommended John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods.

As part of their proposal, John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods suggested an owner-occupied residential development interwoven with City parks and multi-use trail running across and connecting both properties. The full proposal is on the City of Dunwoody website at www.dunwoodyga.gov.

“We met Chris Davis and Anna Lee during our initial phase of looking in the area. Both of them were helpful and patient with us as we continued to search the area for the right opportunity. We really had no intentions of building a new home, but as our search went on we felt that the best option for us was to build new. Chris and Anna held our hand through every step of the process, from selecting the perfect lot and of course the perfect floor plan.

We then met with Clint Mayhew to review our selections and make changes to the floor plan. Clint was superb! I believe he said “Yes” to just about every request I made about modifying the plans…The architects made improvements to the final design without even being asked to so.

James Bane, our builder, is the calmest, most unbelievably agreeable person I have ever met. Any ideas or requests I have had he has found a way to make them happen. It is critical to tell you that we started this process in November 2011, broke ground in early December 2011 and James had our house finished in March 2012. James has never once seemed too busy to talk to me or unavailable to review any questions about the house. James has been instrumental in creating our dream home.

Another fantastic experience in this journey was working with Kelly Magnum at the design center. Due to the distance from the area, I had to plan to make all my selections in one appointment. Kelly made it a point to get to know my style and likes before the appointment and had prepared so much for us ahead of time that the day went like clockwork. We actually made all of the selections that day.

Now we have to pay for everything and obtain a mortgage. Of course everyone knows this is always a nightmare…well not even this part has been a problem. We were introduced to Damon Cortez and Elizabeth Miller in the financial department to explore the option of using Wieland for our financing. Working with Elizabeth and Damon has been the perfect and consummate anchor to the entire process.

We want to thank each person mentioned. They each individually and together made this a fantastic time in our life. We are honored to say that we built our home in BridgeMill and will be forever grateful to each of you for all you have done to create our dream home.”

Pineville Elementary School will be all-new

Pineville Elementary School, the area school for children who live at McCullough, is getting a major upgrade. According to the Charlotte Observer, the local school board recently approved the construction of a new, state-of-the-art Pineville Elementary. The new school is scheduled to be completed by August 2013.

The new school, which will be built on land behind the existing school, will include 39 classrooms, special-area classrooms, computer lab, media center, gym and cafeteria. In addition, Pineville Elementary will become the first LEED-certified school in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District.

Follow these easy tips provided by Yahoo! Real Estate on how to winterize your home:

• Check attic insulation.–Properly insulating the attic of your home will reduce the heat transfer from the interior to outside.

  Have your fireplace professionally inspected and cleaned.

  Install or replace weather stripping.–Make sure that the tops and sides of all doors that lead to the exterior are weather stripped and fit tightly.

Although these decorations are meant to bring a joyful energy into the home, they can also be fire hazards. Take precaution this holiday season and follow these simple safety tips from the United States Fire Administration (USFA) to prevent any holiday mishaps:

Christmas Tree Safety

• Select a fresh tree with needles that are green and hard to pull back from the branches. Older trees are dry and are a potential fire hazard.
• Don’t place the tree close to a heating source to prevent it from being dried out and more susceptible to catch fire.
• Don’t put up a tree too early and keep the tree stand filled with water at all times to keep it moisturized.
• Dispose of your tree by taking it to a recycling center or have a service pick it up. Never put tree branches or needles in a fireplace or wood burning stove.

Holiday Light and Decoration Safety

• Inspect holiday lights each year for frayed wires, bare spots, broken or cracked sockets and excessive kinking or wear before putting them up.
• Do not overload electrical outlets and do not link more than three strands of lights unless the directions say otherwise.
• Do not leave lights on unattended.
• Use nonflammable decorations and keep them away from heat vents.
• Never put wrapping paper in the fireplace because it can cause a very large fire.
• If you use an artificial tree, make sure it’s flame retardant.

Candle Safety

• Make sure that if you use candles, they are in stable holders where they cannot be knocked down.
• Never leave the home with candles burning.
• Do not go near a Christmas tree with an open flame.
